Last year, 2022, was the second deadliest year in Geneva since records began.
The latest figures from the Cantonal Statistics Office show in 2022, 3719 people died.
The highest number since records began in 1969 was the covid year of 2020, when over 4,000 died.
But last year the effects of covid had diminished, researchers say. Deaths were more likely from the flu and the summer heatwave as it affected the over 80s.
Other common causes of death in that year were cancer at 25%, and heart disease at 21%.
