More than 20,000 frontalier permits were issued last year according to the Geneva Cantonal Statistic Office.
It’s slightly down on 2022 when just over 21,000 were issued, a new record. Last year was the second highest since 1989.
The four main sectors people work in are catering, health, retail and construction. But that doesn’t include people who found a job through a recruitment agency.
The canton doesn’t collect numbers for permits which have expired and not renewed, but federal numbers suggest over 100,000 live in France and work in Switzerland.
But those numbers don’t include Swiss nationals who have chosen to live in France or those who work for international organisations.
