In Geneva, the legal battle over urban speed limits is heating up.
Three mobility and environmental groups - Pro Vélo Genève, ATE, and actif-trafiC - have appealed a court ruling that cancelled the city’s generalised 30 kph speed limit.
They argue public health must prevail over the objection of a single police officer whose challenge led to the speed cap being overturned.
Many politicians in the city say the limit is needed to counter noise pollution, which is recognised as a serious problem, to the extent federal authorities are demanding the City of Geneva acts.
