The growth in artificial intelligence is using more and more electricity to an extent it could take an entire nuclear power station to run data centres in Switzerland in just 5 years’ time.
A new centre is due to open in canton Zurich.
The director of Vantage Data Centers, Wolfgang Zepf, told the Tribune de Genève that it will need 600 gigawatt hours a year – that’s the equivalent of a town with 100,000 people.
The increased use of Chat GPT especially, is driving the need for more facilities.
