Retailers are warning of a nationwide shortage of air conditioners and fans, as households race to buy cooling gear before the next heatwave.
The online store Galaxus says June sales were 38% up on the previous June record, and along with Jumbo, Fust and Fnac reports its stocks are now almost empty.
Fresh shipments from Asia are not expected until the end of summer, and some orders placed this week will only be delivered in mid-August or September.
Fnac warns that public institutions have snapped up much of the European supply.
