We still seem to be unwilling to travel much. The latest numbers from Geneva Airport show while there are more people taking planes – it’s not that many.
Last year 5.9 million people used the airport, which is only up just under 6% from 2020 and is down a massive 67% compared to 2019. In that year the airport handled almost 18 million passengers.
The lack of passengers also means there were fewer aircraft movements. Last year there were 99,000 – but before the pandemic that number was 186,000.
But the number of destinations is not down as much. From Geneva you can currently fly to 139 destinations – only 8 down from 2019.
The airport is keen to stress that almost all its long-haul services are running, especially the trans-Atlantic flights, and they’re normally fairly full.
