Despite the fears of health experts – the amount of alcohol consumed during the lockdowns actually fell.
Many of those in public health were warning against excessive drinking while being stuck at home, but the figures show without social interaction – alcohol was less appealing. Although those with an alcohol problem did report drinking more.
Across the population, figures from the Competence Center for Addiction show consumption was down 7.7%.
Unsurprisingly, with the bars closed – more alcohol was bought for consumption at home. When given the choice – more chose to buy non-Swiss beer and wine. Alcohol imports were up 30%.
