The Swiss Ambassador to the United Nations has strongly rejected a recent report from the Special Rapporteur that said this country was a ‘pimping state’ as sex working is legal - so the government collects tax on the worker’s activities.
The ambassador, Jürg Lauber, says the term was ‘not appropriate.’
He stressed the fight against gender-based violence was a priority for Switzerland and the legalization of sex work helps protect the workers.
If it were illegal, the practice would simply move underground, he told the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
He continued by saying the topic must be discussed without moral judgement.
