Are smaller stations under threat?

Could some smaller train stations be closed?

The head of Swiss Federal Railways, Monika Ribar, says her aim is trains should be faster and that regional trains that stop at several stations slow down the entire system.

But the SBB has rules before it makes a decision to close a station. It insists there must be an alternative – such as a tram or bus service – and passengers should be able to reach a station within 15 minutes and then there should be a train every 15 minutes.

But the Green Party warns of the dangers of closing regional stops. They point out internal flights are more common in France after smaller stations were closed.
