Asian hornets are decimating bee hives.
One beekeeper, 45-year-old Patrick Gubler, told the 20 minutes newspaper his heartbreaking story.
He kept 45 hives in canton Solothurn – almost 3 million bees – now they’re all gone.
He says in October he saw his hives being attacked by a swarm of hornets – he says it was a massacre.
He complains he got very little help from the authorities - which are tasked with finding and killing the invasive species. It was days before anyone responded, he says.
Most hornets die in the winter, but they go on a feeding frenzy beforehand.
Experts say more money and organization is needed to effectively fight the menace.
