Bern advises new balanced diet

The Balanced Plate - (c) Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office

Eating a balanced diet just got simpler, at least according to Bern.

The Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office has unveiled an updated version of the balanced plate, created with the Swiss Society for Nutrition and Health.

The guide suggests filling two-fifths of your plate with fruit and vegetables, two-fifths with grains or potatoes, and one-fifth with protein such as meat, fish, eggs, or tofu.

Officials say the more colorful and seasonal the ingredients, the healthier, and more sustainable, the meal.

An online campaign will run for three weeks to promote the new model.
