Bus managers should be able to drive buses

If you want to be a manager in a company – then you should know how to do the job that you’re supposed to be managing.

That’s the theory being implemented at Lausanne Public Transport.

Those who manage the bus and trolley drivers – should know how to drive the vehicles.

The managers will have take the exams to become qualified drivers – and if they fail, they will lose their jobs.

The reform, inspired by similar measures at Geneva’s TPG, aims to bring managers closer to drivers.

Unions worry some of the older managers may fail for health reasons, such as high blood pressure or poor eyesight.
