There are thousands of cars on the road in Switzerland which should have had their technical check – but haven’t.
It’s not the driver’s fault – many cantons are simply running behind schedule.
Across the country, vehicles need to be checked after the car is 5 years old and then every two or three years after that.
But it’s thought that as many as 600,000 are behind.
The reason for the delay is that there are more cars on the road – and the average car is getting older.
But the Federal Roads Office doesn’t see this as a major problem - it points out that less than 1% of accidents on the roads are due to technical problems.
