The political fallout of the new Geneva car tax is continuing.
Many different political parties are now suggesting how those who have been hit by a massive rise can be helped.
The Liberals are suggesting to allow monthly payments. Normally the car tax has to be paid in full before the end of the year.
It’s also calling for a re-examination of the new system.
The Geneva Citizen’s Movement wants to put the new tax on-hold and resubmit a bill which would lower the higher rates – as would the Swiss People’s Party.
Under the new law, the tax is set by CO2 emissions. Some car owners have seen a rise of more than 500% - but 62% of drivers will see their tax come down.
