Carers say no one cares for them

Social workers who’ve be working to protect the elderly in Geneva during the heatwave are complaining no one has been looking after them.

Unions cite the law that says any employer with more than 50 workers has to ensure the safety of their staff.

More than 2,000 work for the cantonal home care unit.

Staff say many had to cycle in the heat for long distances, rest rooms were not cooled and no water was available.

They also complain visits were badly planned and many were not in the same neighbourhood.

Managers dispute the claims.
