Carouge will be cut off from the tram network for nine days at the end of the month – and the hot summer is to blame.
The heat caused the rails to expand and buckle.
Over the summer the TPG had to undertake emergency work to keep the service running. The transport company say the temperature of the lines were measured at 38 degrees in the middle of the night.
Now the fear is as the weather gets cooler, the tracks will contract, causing major damage.
All tram lines in the commune will close from Monday 22nd to the 31st of this month to replace several meters of track.
A temporary bus service will be put in place.
