Cases of the coronavirus have doubled in a week – and the situation is getting worse.

But the number of those dying or hospitalized are staying low, reflecting the vaccination rates and the younger profile of those catching the disease.

In the week of July 5th, just over 2,000 tested positives against 1,000 the week before. The testing rate was similar.

The positivity rate was up right across French speaking Switzerland.

There were 20 people admitted to hospital last week – 12 the week before. It’s the first time that figure has gone up in 14 weeks.

Two people have died, one was aged over 70 – but the other was between 40 and 49. The 40th person in that age group to die out of a total of over 10,000.
