CCIG calls for visa for UN workers who lose their jobs

Vincent Subilia, Director General of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce

The Director General of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, Vincent Subilia, is sounding the alarm over deep budget cuts impacting Geneva’s international institutions.

In an interview with the Tribune de Genève, he says Geneva is losing talent and skills which will impact its international standing and says there needs to be urgent action to allow people to stay.

Those who work in the international sector are not covered by Swiss law. That means they lose their right to stay in Switzerland if they lose their jobs.

He says a work permit, similar to that offered to Ukrainian refugees, should be available to allow them to seek work and not be forced out.

He emphasized that Geneva’s global status and economic future is at stake.
