However, there is a catch. It takes a lot of energy and the amount produced is small.
In the publication, Physical Review Journals, CERN reveals it can strip three protons from a lead nucleus – which turns it into gold.
But the amount produced is tiny. CERN says in four years the amount of gold made is still billions of times short of making a piece of jewellery -and then the gold exists only for a fraction of a second.
But the fact remains – CERN is turning lead into gold.
