The charity, Swiss Solidarity, which normally raises money to help those hit by natural disasters across the world, has raised over CHF 10m for victims of the storms in this country.
Over 30 communes have been hit, mainly in cantons Ticino, Graubünden and Valais.
The money will go mainly to individuals and small businesses. It will be distributed in two phases – those who need immediate help, such as the purchase of basic necessities and emergency accommodation.
The next phase will be to help rebuild people’s lives.
Swiss Solidarity points out that any money distributed will be in addition to any state help and insurance payout.
