Cinemas are suffering so far this year as attendance is down 12%.
Last year was a good year for movie theatres with more than 10 million admissions – a rise of 20% of 2022.
But this year is way off, according to figures from the ProCinema Association.
Many of the problems seem to come from Hollywood itself. First the writers strike restricted the number of movies available – but then the movies released have flopped – such as ‘The Fall Guy’ and ‘Mad Max: Furiosa’.
The Swiss Film Association is also lamenting the new strategies from the producers which can see a big film being released to streamers only after a few weeks of its theatre release.
But it remains confident that next year will be different.
