In canton Bern, voters in the French speaking commune of Moutier have once again shown they do want to change from being under the control of canton Bern and switch to Jura.
The 7,000 residents had already voted on the issue in 2017 – and the very close count then showed they wanted to change cantons. But opponents said the vote wasn’t carried out properly – so there’s been a rerun.
This time the result was clear – 55% said they want to change.
The process of actually changing canton will take around three years. But it will now happen.
