Could Geneva get its own underground rail system?
In an interview today with the Tribune de Genève, the transport minister, Pierre Maudet, sounds confident.
A new detailed plan has been unveiled and will be put forward to the Geneva parliament in 2027.
It proposes lines from the Pays de Gex in France – across Geneva, under the lake, and to St-Julien en Genevois – with trains running every three minutes.
The cost is estimated at CHF 5bn – but Maudet is confident the Confederation would part finance the project.
