Forecasters say it could get even hotter in Geneva before the weekend. Roger Perret from Meteo News told the Blick newspaper that highs could get up to 38 degrees.
But relief is on the way. From Saturday, cloud, rain and thunderstorms will arrive and the heatwave will be over on Sunday.
Next week temperatures will be around 20 – and he points out, autumn is coming.
But currently the heat is having a major effect on the vulnerable. A statement from the University Hospital Zurich says there are more people seeking help.
Doctors are also pointing out that some injuries may not be obviously from the heat. The hot weather can cause dizziness, especially in the elderly, which could mean more people being seen in the emergency rooms due to injuries from falling.
