Covid cases rise - but hospitals coping

The number of people being infected with Covid is rising, but the health system seems to be coping.

This time last week almost 17% of intensive care patients were there because of the virus – and 31% of critical care beds were free.

Yesterday, that had increased a little, with 18% of intensive care beds taken with covid and the number of free beds down at 25%.

In total yesterday, there were 270 new hospitalizations, making the total 1,925 and there were 25 deaths.

More than 60,000 tested positive – that number is thought to be a major underestimate of the true number who are carrying the virus.
