All the precautions we’re taking against Covid is having a major impact on the spread of the seasonal flu.
There are virtually no cases of the flu this year – and that’s likely to be due to the fact flu is not as transmissible as Covid – and so is easier to beat with masks and social distancing.
Normally the flu will kill between 400 and 1,000 every year in Switzerland.
The epidemiologist, Antoine Flahault, talking to the Tribune de Genève says there are lessons we could learn from this. Even when the Covid crises has lifted, it would be useful if every flu season more people continued to wear masks and wash their hands more often.
