Across the Easter weekend, Geneva workers toiled non-stop to finish a major project to re-route the Drize river.
They laid a new 12-meter-long tunnel made up of several pre-fabricated concrete blocks which next year will allow the river to flow under the Route des Acacias.
The work used the biggest crane available in the country – weighing 210 tonnes.
The plan is part of the ongoing Praille-Acacias-Vernets development. It’s planned the river’s new route will be an ‘aquatic spine’ – as described by the cantonal minister Antonio Hodgers. He says we are witnessing the birth of a new neighbourhood.
