This weekend marks the start of the Easter rush to the south – and major delays are expected at the Gotthard Tunnel and other routes heading south.
Many motorists will be heading from Germany, which starts its school break as well as several Swiss cantons.
The motoring organisation, the TCS, says it expects the first wave of traffic from tomorrow.
There’ll be a second wave next week as other cantons start their breaks, as well as a couple more German states and zone A in France, which includes Lyon.
To avoid the worse of the jams, the TCS recommends leave early and return late. You should arrive at the northern end of the Gotthard Tunnel before 8am or drive overnight. When leaving, go late in the evening – after 10pm.
