An elderly man from Winterthur has lost several hundred thousand francs after a cruel scam, according to the Zurich Cantonal Police.
The 74 year old received several calls from the con-artists claiming to be police officers or from the public prosecutor's office. They pressured him to transfer the cash after they said his daughter had been arrested.
The man followed their instructions due to the shock of the situation, resulting in several transfers over two days.
The police are warning against being tempted to make rash decisions when under pressure and advise ending the phone call immediately if uncertain and call your local police force.
