Energy saving suggestions adopted in Geneva

The first raft of recommendations from Geneva’s energy task force have been accepted by the Grand Council.

The aim is to save energy over the winter.

Many of the ideas had already been well flagged beforehand.

Heating in all public buildings will be cut to 20 degrees and it won’t be switched on until the 15th October.

Public buildings should switch off hot water – and private companies should be encouraged to.

Non-residential buildings should have their lights switched off between 1am and 6am – any private buildings not doing that could be fined.

The impact of the plan will be monitored by the University of Geneva.
