The upcoming vote on environmental responsibility looks set to fail – badly.
The initiative was launched by the Young Greens.
The Environmental Responsibility Initiative demands economic activities don’t exceed the ability of the planet to sustain them.
But detractors say it will cause enormous economic harm if implemented and trigger higher prices.
The main right-wing parties are all massively against. 94% of the Swiss People’s Party membership say no.
Surveys show the same thing: The latest by Tamedia shows that 67% are against. That’s bigger than the previous survey in December which showed 62% were against it.
Support for initiatives tends to decline the closer the vote gets. There seems to be little hope the tide will turn before February 9th.
