Escalade celebrations back at full strength

Escalade celebrations in Geneva were back at full strength over the weekend after 2 years of Covid restrictions.

Thousands braved the cold weather to enjoy the traditional food of soup and boar sausages and watched the traditional parade of 800 members of the 1602 Company who marched through the streets holding torches, playing flutes and horses pulling gun carriages. 

Elsewhere, firefighters were called to help a horse in the run up to the Parade. It was being ridden to the centre of town when it collapsed in Lancy. 

The 650-kilo animal was tranquilized and lifted onto a truck and taken back to its stables. The cantonal vet, Alain Kuffer, was called by rescue services. 

He says the 22 year old horse is now recovering and is possibly suffering from arthritis
