Young parents in Geneva could soon benefit from 24 weeks of parental leave, which will be a first in Switzerland.
According to RTS, the project had been on hold after Bern ruled the funding plan incompatible with federal law - despite voters giving the go ahead in 2023.
The deadlock was resolved through a change to the loss of earnings compensation system.
The plan includes 16 weeks for mothers and 8 weeks for fathers.
Supporters now hope the new leave scheme can come into force in January 2027.
