It will be illegal from January to cover your face in public. But the government has also allowed for many exceptions.
The move follows a public vote three years ago to ban the burka, so from January full face veils will be illegal.
But the ban won’t apply to medical face masks, costumes for carnival or in some cases, demonstrations.
Those found in violation of the law will face a CHF 1000 fine, but that will be reduced to CHF 100 if paid immediately.
