A farmer in Fribourg is facing legal action from animal rights groups after he left a cow with an ingrowing horn untreated.
The horn was growing upside down and had started to enter the cow’s head, near the eye.
A spokesman from the group which has launched the action – Basel Animal Save – says the situation was easily avoided. The horn could have been shortened on a regular basis or a splint would have pushed it in another direction.
He says the animal would have been saved the pain.
The farmer will be facing animal welfare charges.
