The people believe the makeup of the Federal Council should change after the results of the weekend’s elections.
Carried out by the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation the survey shows 36% believe the Liberals should lose one of their two seats and it be given to the Centre party, which is now the third political force in the country after winning 29 seats in parliament – compared to 28 for the Liberals.
There is no clear legal mechanism on how the government should be made up – historically it’s been agreed under the so called ‘Magic Formula.’
Opinion is a bit more split in when the change should take place – either immediately or when the next vacancy opens up.
