Fire cause revealed

Authorities now believe a lithium battery may have triggered Friday's warehouse fire at the Thévenaz-Leduc recycling site in Ecublens, though the cause has not yet been formally confirmed

Life in the Lausanne area is back to normal, according to the commune of Chavannes-près-Renens, and residents can reopen windows.

But cantonal officials still advise thoroughly washing fruit and vegetables exposed to the smoke, and avoiding eggs where soot is visible.

Cantonal doctor Thierry Fumeaux calls these standard precautions when pollution risk is suspected, adding that no health complaints have so far been reported.

Soil analyses are still under way to check for toxic deposits.
