Switzerland’s first hybrid wind and solar farm has been given the go ahead in canton Graubünden.
It’s being built by the real estate section of Armasuisse, which is a government unit in charge of military procurement.
The wind turbine to be built also has solar panels attached to the mast and should generate 35 megawatt hours a year – for comparison, an average home uses 9 megawatt hours a year.
The prototype will be installed at the end of the year – if successful a further eight unis will be installed in 2024.
