A joint French/Swiss project is underway on the border of Geneva and Haut-Savoie.
The Foron river marks the exact border in many areas – so any work needs international cooperation.
The plans are to re-naturalize the river, protect nearby properties from flooding and protect the groundwater, which is used by both countries.
A new recreational area is also being built, so the riverside can be enjoyed by walkers.
The project will cost nearly EUR 5m – split between Switzerland and France. It covers nearly 5 hectares.
Local politicians are delighted at the project, many point out that only a few years ago the area was used as a dumping ground by fly-tippers.
