France re-enters lockdown

France is re-entering lockdown to try to stem one of the worst infection rates in Europe. But there will be some allowance for Easter.

Some restrictions will start on Saturday – but those who are already away for Easter will be allowed to travel to second homes or visit family until Tuesday, when stricter travel restrictions will come into force. 

Schools and universities will be closed, as will non-essential shops. From Tuesday, any travel more than 10km from your home will have to be justified. 

But it will not mean the re-introduction of the attestation form. 

President Emmanuel Macron announced the new rules on TV yesterday evening. 

He also held out some hope. He says the plan will be from mid-May, there could be a limited reopening, including restaurant terraces.
