Maybe a bit unsurprisingly, the free subscriptions to Geneva public transport have been a phenomenal success.
Since the beginning of the year, the under 25s living in Geneva have been eligible for free transport if they’re in education, training or on a low income.
Nearly 26,000 have taken up the offer since January 1st. The vast majority are those under 17.
The canton decided to offer free transport to young people after it recorded a tax surplus and wishes to persuade more people to use public transport.
