There are worries turnout for this weekend’s cantonal elections in Geneva will be lower than last time.
At the end of Monday, 10.3% of the electorate had already voted by post – at the same point in the cycle five years ago that figure was 6% higher.
But observers point out there are some differences this time around. Papers were sent out later this time – that was due to votes also being held on the 12th March. Election officials had to wait until after that date before sending out the election papers to prevent confusion.
In what maybe seen as a backward step – five years ago it was possible to vote online – that system has been suspended.
Internet voting was very popular with citizen based abroad.
