Geneva boat owners are calling for a return to the old system of allocating berths, saying it's now almost impossible to sell a boat.
The current system has been in place for just over two years. Now berths are allocated by a waiting list – when a space becomes available, the next in line gets it.
But this means a boat owner can’t sell the boat and the berth at the same time – as they used to be able to.
The canton changed the rules as it was felt the previous system meant boats were being sold at exorbitant prices, mainly for the berthing space.
The Boat Owners Association says no one will want to buy a boat if it can’t be berthed.
