The Geneva commune of Vandoeuvres is turning up the heat on would be burglaries.
The area has suffered from a recent spate of break-ins over the last few months.
It’s planning a one-million-franc video surveillance network combining traditional cameras with automatic license-plate readers, a first for the canton.
The goal is to create a virtual perimeter around the town.
About forty cameras would monitor roads and catch vehicles linked to serious offences.
But while local cameras pose no issue, installing plate-readers on cantonal roads faces a legal hurdle.
A motion now before the Geneva Grand Council aims to fix that.
