Geneva firework show may be doomed

Geneva’s iconic firework show has been cancelled for the fourth year in a row.

This show had become a staple in Geneva. It draws large crowds and is praised for being one of the most spectacular in Europe.

But it may be doomed.

The event has been cancelled due to lack of funding - sponsors aren’t willing to invest In the CHF 1.5m show.

There are worries about being associated with fireworks due to ecological concerns.

The event was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 because of covid, then again last year because of money issues.

Although earlier this year, a drone show was set up over the lake which may be the future.

Geneva tourism says that they are unsure if the firework show will continue in the future.
