Canton Geneva is getting a windfall from the central bank.
The Swiss National Bank is set to close 2025 with a hefty profit of around CHF 26bn.
CHF 4bn is going to be shared across the cantons - Geneva will get CHF 156m - double the original estimate.
Although the cash is welcome, it’s not enough to significantly close the deficit.
Finance Minister, Nathalie Fontanet, says the SNB money will be factored into the 2026 budget.
The Grand Council has already rejected this year’s budget which predicted a CHF 767m shortfall.
