In Geneva, 2,000 marched to mark Mayday. The parade ended in the Parc des Bastions with speeches.
Correspondents suggest much of the energy had been sapped following the cantonal elections.
Many of the participants talks of the ‘gloomy prospects’ for the next five years following the success of the right wing.
There was also opposition to a possible threat to the Geneva minimum wage from Bern. In 2020 voters in the canton agreed to a minimum wage of CHF 24 an hour - but Bern says nationally agreed rates of pay need to be adhered to, even if it’s less.
