Geneva opens up vaccines to those 45 and over

Geneva has opened up vaccinations for all those over the age of 45 – the lower age is ahead of schedule.

There are three main reasons, according to the authorities. These reasons are an increase in the number of doses arriving in the canton, the imminent opening of a mass vaccination centre at the Palexpo, but mainly a lower than expected take up of registrations from the 55-65 age group. 

There will also be another large vaccination centre opening next month, run by the Pharmacie Populaire.

The cantonal director of health Adrian Bron says the vaccination programme is a race against time and it’s important not to have half-full vaccination centres.
