Authorities in canton Geneva are outlining what maybe a Covid strategy come the autumn.
The cantonal health minister, Mauro Poggia, is admitting they don’t know what will happen - but several different scenarios are being planned for.
One is the worst case, which is considered unlikely – but the emergence of a new strain which will mean the mass vaccination of the population once again.
But the cantonal pharmacist, Nathalie Vernaz-Hegi, says she believes other outcomes will be more likely, a new strain which will mean the vaccination of the elderly and vulnerable. Or a new vaccine, which is being worked on, that is effective against the Delta and the Omicron variants which could then be rolled out to the entire population.
The canton says it will keep some vaccination centres open all summer – with the ability to ramp up quickly if required.
