Geneva and federal authorities are being congratulated for the smooth running of the summit between the US and Russian presidents.
Many observers say the event went off without a hitch – which is especially impressive as there was only a three-week notice period.
The whole operation took 2,000 Geneva police officers, 1,000 officers from other cantons, 1,000 soldiers and other agents all working together.
Local press is reporting the security agents from the US and Russia were also impressed with the operation.
It wasn’t just the day itself. In the ten days ahead of the meeting the airport dealt with 60 flights from Russia and the US as well as Swiss military and government flights – all while running a normal schedule.
Head of cantonal security, Mauro Poggia, says the event was a success – but he says he was relieved when the last presidential flight left.
He added the day was a great opportunity for Geneva which showed the world what the city can do.
